Awards

Currently there are two types of awards from the Society of Nematologists that are given based on applications or nominations submitted in advance of the annual meetings.

Student travel awards are given on a competitive basis to help finance student participation in the society’s annual meetings. The awards are funded by Industry sponsors of the society and by the Cobb Foundation. Beginning in 2025, the SON is granting a registration fee waiver (at the SON student-member rate) to Industry-sponsored travel award winners.
Members of the society with sustained, outstanding achievements in research, classroom teaching, extension education, professional service, and/or overall accomplishments are recognized annually with the Syngenta Crop Protection Award, the Teaching Excellence Award, and as Fellow of the Society. Recipients of these awards are nominated by other members of the Society.

**New timeline for the 2026 Honorary Member Call for Nominations**

Based on our 2025 membership, we have the ability to add another Honorary Member to our ranks in 2026. As we realign to our new SON Award nomination cycle, the 2026 Call for Honorary Member Nominations will be from November 30th, 2025 through January 31st, 2026. Details of the award criteria and nomination guidelines are available online here.

Annual Meeting Student Travel Awards for 2026

Details of the awards, their criteria, and the application process will be available online.
The Call for Applications will begin on February 1st, 2026 with a deadline for application submission on April 1, 2026.

**Nominations for the Syngenta Award, the Teaching Excellence Award, SON Fellow for 2026
